We offer class rates by the month and our prices start at just $50 month for 1 class per week per month classes are 3+ hours in length going up to $100 for 7 classes per week per month. We offer classes in Tao Qi Aiki (the way of power harmonizing with power) which is straight forward self defensive techniques taught in both sporting and combative methods. The roots of Tao Qi Aik come from Crew family boxing, catch wrestling, and fencing. Korean Judo, Aikido on the Koichi Tohei side of the split, Walter Godin's Chinese Kempo, Al Dela Cruz's Chuan Fa, and Escrima. This system covers grappling, throws, joint locks (fingers, wrist, elbow, shoulder, neck, hip, knee, ankle, toes), pressure & nerve points, strikes (hands, elbows, shoulders, hips, knees, feet), chokes (both blood and air with or without gi), foot work, falls, rolls, blocks (hard and soft), breathing, self control, projection, meditation, among others.
Tao Qi Aiki is a system that has been blending since 1959 when my father was first placed into Judo and began his journey in the oriental arts to present day. Obtaining dan grades in both judo and aikido before landing in Oahu in 1965 my father realized the holes in each systems theories but not counting out their usefulness. He searched the island to find the most straight forward combative systems he could find. While sparring with a Dragon stylist he learned of Walter Godin's school of Self Defense. As the school systems in Oahu at the time were very behind those of the British schools in the middle east. My grandfather made a agreement with my father that he would train under Walter Godin during the days instead of waste the time in school with work that were years behind his knowledge at the time. Shortly after that my father was sparring with a student of Al Dela Cruz who my father was impressed by his soft techniques. So he began studying 3 nights a week under Al Dela Cruz who was at the time a motorcycle police officer as well as doing kempo in the days and going to Pearl city to randori in judo and aikido.
In 1976 my grandfather became very ill and my father flew immediately from Oahu to Pennsylvania to be by the commanders side in his passing. Not knowing what to do my father made his way west back to San Diego and opened a dojo in 1977 in North Park called Crew's Power Club. I was born 1978 and the dojo was my day care/school. Which oddly enough was located across the street from my friend Dave's gym in North Park called Undisputed. While there our friend Gilbert Martinez studying at my fathers school exposed him to the stick work of Siete Pares Escrima of Bert Labitan. My father studied only the stick work of the system for 2-3 years and added the knowledge to his blend which went perfect with kempo. In 1985 my father closed the doors on his dojo due to his students using their knowledge for the wrong purposes I believe it was gangs or something. I remember studying a few years in the dojo before my father closed the doors. The practices were absolutely amazing people jumping threw barbed wire hoops held shoulder height off the ground then rolling out safe. Blades flying faster then any movie I have ever seen attempt to do and the pain in the workouts. They would do 1000 push up sets, there was no padding for sparring, and if you got hit you thanked the person for hitting you, they beat on trees. It was truly awesome and I have yet to see any where do the hard training I got to see. Which, from as my father describes Oahu was barely pushing hard compared to the hell at his classes. From 1985 till sometime in the early 90's father began escorting high profile clients around the world as well as bouncing in a at the time famous crew called the A-Team a group of dan grade martial artist from different back grounds who worked bars, clubs, and the local music scene. After those days father began only teaching privately to security, law enforcement, border patrol agents, and business owners around the world.
Our sign on the door reads "All those who come in PEACE are WELCOME" and we mean it. We are not only a school of combative techniques of many systems but also a school of respect and honor. We honor all other systems and respect their usefulness in life.
If you are interested in studying a system under one of our student's in their system you can do that at our location as well but hours will be in the appointment only time slots until we get a space upgrade.
All those who stop by LEAVE YOUR EGO'S AT THE DOOR. There are no masters here, only students. Some just may happen to be students for a very long time. As calling yourself a master would imply a end to knowledge however, there is never a end to knowledge and we must continue to learn with a open mind along the path of life.
